Scenario Fire alarm: DRK and fire brigade save seniors in Barnstorf!

In Barnstorf, the residents of a retirement home experienced an extraordinary situation that quickly turned out to be a well -planned exercise. Last Saturday, dark clouds of smoke spread over the DRK senior home, which resulted in immediate alarms. An emergency scenario began for the approximately 90 residents and more than 130 fire brigade and DRK, which was carefully staged. The exercise was not only a practical training, but also a valuable opportunity to react quickly to critical situations.

"Such exercises are important," explained Till Bigalke, training coordinator at the DRK. "We would like to give our trainees the chance to test theoretical knowledge in practice." During the exercise that was part of a training day, the rescue workers should learn how to act efficiently and coordinated in an actual emergency. The participants were able to sniff in all facets of the emergency services, and the exercise was designed as realistic as possible.

realistic exercise with surprising elements

A particularly interesting aspect of the exercise was that the vast majority of residents did not know anything about the simulation. Only eleven selected people were inaugurated as "extras" to present injuries and were made up for this purpose. This approach provided authentic reactions and illustrated how those affected could feel in a real crisis situation.

After triggering the alarm, the prescribed telephone chain was started and all employees at the location acted exemplary. The retirement home uses the neighboring halls of the network operator Nowega as an escape route in emergencies. These halls are part of the fire protection concept and offer enough space and protection for the residents. The rapid accessibility of a contact person on site that is guaranteed within five minutes made sure that the evacuation went smoothly.

Another positive highlight was the commitment of all employees of the retirement home. Even those who were on vacation or sick came to support their colleagues in the exercise. "Even in the middle of the supermarket, the shopping was left," reported Agnieszka Siedlecka. This cohesion shows how important employees are in an emergency and appreciate their commitment.

The exercise ended with a positive balance. "We showed: Even with an extraordinary event, you can rely on us," said district on -call headers Tarek Spreen and emphasized that the collaboration between the different emergency services worked excellently. The focus was on the safety of the residents, and the exercise confirmed that the rescue workers are well prepared for similar tragedies.

Some of the residents were received with blankets, warm food and drinks from the DRK support service in the halls, which underlined the feeling of security and security and showed that even in crisis situations, the well-being of the older generation is never lost sight of. Such simulations not only increase security, but also the satisfaction of the residents. Overall, the scenario was a great success that had valuable lessons ready for everyone involved.
