Martfelder Council says no to new wind turbines - citizens relieved!
In a dramatic turning point for the wind power plans in Martfeld, the municipal council decided on Thursday evening that for the time being, no new wind turbines on the wooden maize and in Hustedt are being built. The decision was made in the fully occupied village community center and made it easier for many of the citizens present, while some council members missed the chance of participating in the citizen. The projector Söhnke Schierloh had previously presented a modified application, which, among other things, provided for a distance of 700 meters for individual development.
Despite these concessions, the mood in the council was clear: While some members like Torsten Kirstein from the independent list of Martfeld (ULM) advocated to adjourish the vote, the decision was made the same evening. Verena Hruby from the CDU expressed concerns that the expansion would strengthen the surrounding by wind turbines in the surrounding counties. "Another expulsion is not in the interest of the citizens," she said and received support from other council members who supported the rejection of the application.
Resistance to wind power projects
The vote brought a clear result: seven council members voted against the application, while only three were for it. Mayor Michael Albers (SPD) emphasized that Martfeld has already made a significant contribution to climate protection and did not want to lose the support of the citizens. "We cannot decide a new area just because there is a good contract," says Albers.
The planned expansion of the wind farm in Hustedt was also rejected. The Westwind company from Kirchdorf had submitted an application for another facility, but the majority of the council members were against it. "I mean it is enough at the moment," said Arne Wolters (Ulm) and underlined the negative attitude of the council. Despite the decisions, the topic of wind power in Martfeld remains on the agenda, as Mayor Albers noted: "This will continue to concern us."
