cybner and information room: a new focus of the Bundeswehr
The cyber and information room, for short CIR, is a digital domain that is becoming increasingly important for the Bundeswehr. This new partial dispute is considered equivalent to the traditional armed forces such as armies, navy and air force. In the past, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has emphasized that the Bundeswehr has to be done "digitally" to counter current and future threats on the Internet and in digital space.
The cyber space itself includes all wire-bound and wireless IT systems that are connected by the Internet. It is a global virtual space in which data and information flow. The information space, on the other hand, refers to the way information is generated, processed, discussed and stored. In today's networked world, the distribution, perception and interpretation of information are of crucial importance. In addition, the CIR area also supports other armed forces with geographic information services, which further emphasizes its relevance.
Lieutenant General Michael Vetter, born in 1962, brings comprehensive experience into the discussion. Since April 2019 he has been head of the cyber and information technology department in the Federal Ministry of Defense. Vetter, who entered the Bundeswehr in 1982, quickly worked up and held numerous key positions, including the management of the air force maintenance regiment 2 in Diepholz and the Logistics Center of the Bundeswehr in Wilhelmshaven.
