Delmenhorst, Deutschland - In Delmenhorst, the memory of the victims of the Second World War is preserved with great commitment! Wolfgang Jondral, 85 years old, is the engine behind a group of around 25 former soldiers who are committed to maintaining soldier graves. This voluntary work is carried out as part of the Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge, which has been responsible for the preservation and maintenance of the graves of German war potter since 1954. Jondral, a former sergeant, proudly looks back on his peaceful years and wants to give something back with his commitment.

Before the Memorial Day on November 17, 18 reservists from the Delmenhorster comradeship put a lot of effort into it. In the Protestant cemetery, the memorial was cleaned, weeds were removed and paving work was carried out. Jondral, who coordinates these important work for 21 years, now hands over responsibility to 54-year-old Arne Stauner, who wants to continue tradition. This nursing work has been around since 2003, and the reservists even travel to important places such as the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in order to keep history alive and learn from it. "It is essential to illuminate the past and make it experienced for the coming generations," explains Jondral.

Many were impressed by the important work of the Volksbund, which still helps relatives today to educate the fates of missing people. Jondral and his team contribute around 300 euros to the traditional donation collection before the Memorial Day to support this significant memory.
