New chief security chief in Cuxhaven: Bastian Schwarzat takes over management

The Cuxhaven Police Inspection recently announced a change of personnel in the leadership staff. Bastian Schwarzat is the new head of the operational area, an office that he officially started on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the presence of police chief Andreas Sagehorn and inspection manager Michael Hasselmann.

Schwarzat succeeds Peter Oprowski, who held this position for about a year. Oprowski is now returning to his previous role as head of the operational and patrol service. The new leader brings fresh knowledge and experience from his recently completed master's degree at the German university of the police, which is good for the challenges of his new office.

In his new function, Bastian Schwarzat is responsible for around 100 employees. Together they will ensure the safety of a population of over 200,000 people. This responsibility also includes planning, preparation and management of larger operations. The meaning of the role is emphasized by the statement by police chief Sagehorn: "He not only brings specialist knowledge, but also the necessary sensitivity to implement the important task as head of the area of application."

Schwarzat has an impressive professional career. Born in Bremen, he started his police training in 2009 at the police academy in Oldenburg and has since held various positions, especially within the Verden/Osterholz police inspection. He gained valuable experiences in the investigative and patrol service and also worked as a senior civil servant in the cooperative large-scale control center Oldenburg.

The choice of Schwarzat reflects the trust of the Cuxhaven police inspection in its skills and is a sign of continuity in the management of the area of application. With a clear focus on the security needs of the citizens, he will do his best to overcome the challenges that this responsibility brings. His predecessors have already laid the foundation stone, and it remains to be seen how he will implement his visions and what innovative approaches he can bring in.
