Loud bang in Friesland: Eurofighter exceed sound limit!
Varel, Deutschland - A deafening bang made the residents of Friesland, Wesermarsch, the north of the district of Cloppenburg and even Oldenburg on Wednesday afternoon! What was going on? The answer came quickly: Seven Eurofighter of the Bundeswehr were in the air and caused excitement. The radar evaluation confirmed that at 3:12 p.m. a fighter jet broke through the sound barrier and that a height of 39,200 feet, i.e. about 11,950 meters, reached just 12.4 kilometers from Varel!
Bundeswehr in action
"The aircraft of the tactical air force squadron 31 'Boelcke' flew as part of the daily practice and training flight operations," said a spokesman for the Bundeswehr aircraft office. These exercises took place in the reserved airspace "Tra Weser". The overseland bang, which frightened many, is a typical sound when a jet flies faster than 640 nodes, i.e. over 1,200 kilometers per hour. Despite the enormous altitude, this bang can be clearly heard on the ground!
rules for overhaul flights
The Bundeswehr informs that overlying flights are only allowed under certain conditions: they have to take place over 36,000 feet (approx. 11,000 meters) and on working days between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. These strict regulations are intended to ensure that the noise is kept as low as possible for the residents. But the fright that the bang triggered could not be ignored!
