Kjells Wunderland: New palliative care for children comes to Cloppenburg!
Cloppenburg, Deutschland - A groundbreaking new supply offer starts in Cloppenburg! From April a specialized outpatient palliative care for seriously ill children and adolescents will be set up in the districts of Cloppenburg, Vechta and Diepholz. After the tragic loss of her son Kjell, who died of a malignant brain tumor, his parents, Michelle and Christian Lampe, and their association "Kjells Wunderland" work to help other families who are in similar situations.
In November 2021, eight -year -old Kjell Lampe was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor. Despite all the efforts of his parents to find a suitable treatment, the support in the district of Cloppenburg was inadequate at the time. The desperate search for medical care led to an agonizing back and forth between different clinics. "If we had had a palliative-medical care at home, we could have saved this ordeal to our son," said Christian Lampe.
a ray of hope for affected families
The social center Emstek/Cappeln, under the sponsorship of the St. Antonis Foundation, will now provide two pediatric nurses who will carry out the specialized outpatient palliative care from April. Annette Blömer and Kristin Harloff-Scotes are enthusiastic about their new task and want to offer the families concerned the support that they urgently need. "Despite the great suffering, it is a very fulfilling task," explains Blömer. Medical care is supported by telemedicine, which enables flexible and direct care.
The Lamp couple fought tirelessly to ensure that this form of care becomes a reality. "After Kjell's death, it was clear to us that we wanted to make a difference. The SAPV-JK was at the top of our wish list," says Michelle Gerdes lamp. The association has financed the necessary training for the nurses and hopes that the new services will soon benefit many families. "The need is there," she emphasizes, and it remains to be hoped that all children in the region will stay healthy so that nurses can also work in adult care.
