Boris Pistorius says no to Uelzen: New direct election campaign in Hanover!

BORIS Pistorius, the Federal Minister of Defense and currently the most popular federal politician, according to ZDF "Politbarometer", has announced that his decision not to run for a direct mandate in the 2025 Bundestag election. Instead, he will compete in the City of Hanover II constituency. This information was officially reported on Monday and caused mixed reactions.

The SPD sub-district chairman of Uelzen, Jan Henner Putzier, was disappointed with the decision of Pistorius. "It's a shame, I would have been very happy. Boris Pistorius is a good man, a great politician. He would have suited our constituency well with his mentality," he said in an interview with AZ. Putting is currently organizing the introduction procedure for determining a new candidate for the constituency, which is to take place on December 14, 2024.

The decision by Pistorius is considered an attempt to support the SPD in a strategically important district. "I worked in Hanover for ten years and spent a lot of time there. I would like to help my part to achieve a good result next year, and that includes winning as many constituencies as possible," said Pistorius to justify his choice.

In the constituency of the city of Hanover II, the SPD has celebrated success continuously since 1949; Yasmin Fahimi won the last choice, who, however, lay down her mandate in 2022 to take the top of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). Pistorius rejected the Parkinson's candidate in his birthplace Osnabrück so as not to compete against the recovered MP Manuel Gava.

In the meantime, the CDU has nominated Henning Otte as a direct candidate in the Celle-Uelzen constituency. Otte received an impressive 95.1 percent approval in nomination. This ensures clarity in competition because he now knows that Pistorius will not be his opponent.
