Night buses in Aurich: Successful return and new plans!

The return of the nightsmen bus lines between north-Aurich (N 20) and Aurich-Wittmund (N 10) exceeded expectations! The lines have been active again since the end of September, and the first figures speak a clear language: "Our expectations have been exceeded," announced Jens Kleen, the head of the office, at the meeting of the Aurich District and Transport Committee. The demand is enormous, especially in line N 10, which controls the “Aurum” discotheque in Middels. Up to 64 paying passengers were counted on one weekend-and without the owners of Germany tickets and youth tickets! Kleen estimates that the actual number of passengers was even twice as high. A highlight was the night from October 27th to October 27th, when the circular railway had to use a articulated bus due to the large rush.

The line N 20, which connects Aurich with north and stops at the “Thun” discotheque in Moorhusen, also recorded success with up to 30 bed tickets sold. But that's just the beginning! In the coming weeks, five new night lines will be put to the test. The Plusbus, which runs between Simonswolde, Ihlow and Aurich during the day, could also drive from Saturday to Sunday as N 60. A similar extension is planned for line N 70, which Großefehn, Wiesmoor and Aurich could connect. These new lines could become a reality at the earliest from February 2025. The N 40 (Greetsiel-Hinte-Emden) and N 70 (Aurich-emden) are also on the list and could be tackled from May 2025.

But not everything runs smoothly! The situation is more complicated between Aurich and Dornum. The existing public transport offer is already suboptimal during the day, and a night line N 50 would not make much sense due to the complex detours. A new connection via Westerholt could be a solution, but the talks between the Aurich and Wittmund counties could be delayed due to the re -awarding of concessions. A possible night line N 50 would be feasible from September 2026 at the earliest. And all of this has its price: the existing lines N 10 and N 20 cost the district around 10,000 euros per month, and additional routes could cost between 1,500 and 7,000 euros per night line. Another obstacle? The acute lack of bus drivers that could endanger the plans!
