Vaccination day in Ammerland: 50% of the vaccination income for animal welfare!

In a remarkable step to promote animal welfare, a vaccination day in Ammerland will be held on October 24, 2023. Veterinary practices from the region will donate 50 percent of their vaccination revenue to the animal protection association on this day. This commitment not only represents financial support, but also sensitizes pet owners to the importance of vaccinations for the health of their pets.

Barbara Wich-Glasen, an experienced veterinarian from Augustfehn, explains the crucial advantages of vaccinations. It describes that vaccinations serve to protect pets from severe, potentially fatal diseases and to control the spread of these diseases. The constant vaccination commission for Veterinary Medicine (STIKO VET) evaluates which vaccinations are considered to be healthy for various animal species.

recommended vaccinations for pets

The STIKO VET recommends so-called core vaccinations that are indispensable for the health of the animals. These vaccines protect against highly contagious diseases that can lead to considerable animal suffering. Particular attention is paid to the vaccinations for cats that should be protected at least against cat sniffing and cat disease - both diseases that are extremely contagious.

For dogs, vaccinations against diseases such as leptospirosis, parvovirosis and distemper are recommended. In addition, rabies vaccination is important protection, especially for free -range and dogs. This vaccination is not only essential for the animals themselves, but also protects people from infection with this dangerous illness. Despite the status of Germany as rabies -free, there are always cases of illegal animal imports that can increase the risk.

The willingness to vaccinate among animal owners sees Barbara Wich-Glasen as relatively good. In their practice, around 60 percent of animal owners show willingness to have their animals vaccinated according to the recommendations of the STIKO VET. Since vaccinations are usually well tolerated, serious side effects are rare. However, some animals show slight reactions, similar to swelling at the puncture site, which usually subsides again after a few days.

Ms. Wich-Glasen also points out that a thorough examination before vaccination is of great importance. If an acute illness signs, these should be treated before an animal is vaccinated. After vaccination, it makes sense to give the animals sufficient calm to avoid possible loads.

The vaccination day in Ammerland offers an excellent opportunity for animal owners to have their pets care and at the same time make a valuable contribution to animal welfare. Interested parties should secure an appointment in one of the participating practices in good time.
