Spring awakening: Park of gardens in Rostrup plans to redesign!
In the Park of Gardens in Rostrup, the extensive preparations for the upcoming season are currently in full swing. On Sunday, at the special opening day, around 1,800 visitors ventured into the park despite the mild weather. While many guests were able to sunbathe and admired the flora, the team under the direction of Gärtner Björn Ehsen was busy making the beds winterproof.
The team still has a lot of work in front of them, because the care of the beds does not happen on its own. "We don't put our feet up," emphasizes Ehsen. Instead, the plants are carefully taken out and mostly disposed of. Particularly valuable tubers such as the dahlias must be thoroughly cleaned and securely stored for wintering. These measures are crucial so that the guests can admire the magnificent flowers next year as soon as they are preferred in the ground.
new plants for the park
The team has already received a large delivery of new plants for the coming season. The focus is on over 34,000 flower bulbs of 70 different species that are planted in the flower band of the park. These include a total of around 1,700 square meters of space. In mid -March, the planting continues with another 36,000 spring bloomers. On April 18, 2025, those responsible would expect a colorful start to the parking season thanks to these preparations.
Christian Wandscher, the managing director of the park, announces that horticultural care is now being taken over internally. Before that, these tasks were in the hands of external service providers. The newly set 15 gardeners, who were mostly active with these companies, will ensure that the beds are in the best possible condition.
long -term plans for climate protection
The future of the park looks promising. Wandscher plans to establish a model park for climate protection from the end of the 2025 season. An investment of three million euros is planned for this ambitious project. A central element of the project will be the removal of an old concrete road that is still reminiscent of the former airfield from the Second World War.
In this model garden, people should learn how they can contribute to improving the climate and biodiversity in their own gardens. In addition, those responsible want to do without the use of fountain water and optimize the infiltration of water.
The park has proven to be independent and innovative, which is also underlined by the high number of 140 horticultural companies that present their designs in the park. "Two companies are currently on the waiting list," says Wandscher about the great interest and the low fluctuation of the providers.
The preparations in the park of gardens are a clear sign of the positive development in the region and the commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. More information about the developments in the park can be found in the comprehensive report on www.nwzonline.de .
