New Year 2025: Optimism or pessimism in view of the Austrians?
New Year 2025: Optimism or pessimism in view of the Austrians?
Erlauf, Österreich - The situation for Germans who emigrate to Switzerland shows a mixed reality. While many hope for new opportunities, around 25,000 Germans leave the country every year after a short time. In a recent report of the Welt it is emphasized that about a third of the emigrants return to their homeland after one year. This return is often a result of high cost of living, which is an estimated 59 percent above the European average, and difficult integration into Swiss society.
Switzerland: fascination and challenges
like Nicolas Mauch, a 24-year-old UBS trainee, report many emigrants of their positive experiences in Switzerland. Zurich is described as a beautiful place that offers both nature and good job opportunities. Despite these positive aspects, Matthias Estermann, an integration consultant with over 26 years of experience in Switzerland, emphasizes that the lack of personal environment is often underestimated by many. Copies like a family that returned after only three weeks due to professional stress and cultural adaptation pressure, illustrate the challenges associated with a fresh start. Estermann therefore recommends keeping a plan B ready for the worst.
Another important point of view in emigration is personal responsibility, which plays a larger role in Switzerland than in other countries. Responsibility for your own health insurance and high living costs can quickly dampen the initial euphoria. During emigration, more and more wealthy Germans are moving to Switzerland today who are concerned about stability in Germany. The Krone also offers a comprehensive outlook on the mood of the Austrians at the beginning of 2025, where about a third optimistic, another third is skeptical and 27 percent. The political and economic challenges remain in view, while the external views of Switzerland are shaped by success and stability.
