This also affects travelers at two airports in Bavaria: Nuremberg and Memmingen. The Ryanair boss, Michael O'Leary, made this announcement during a press conference in Dublin.

Currently, passengers can either check in online via the Ryanair app or do this personally at the airport, the latter being associated with an additional fee of 55 euros. In the future, however, only the digital option via the app will be available. This could be a challenge for travelers who plan to fly without a mobile phone because they can no longer get their boarding passes in paper form.

This decision, which will come into force from May 2025, should make travel more uncomplicated, emphasized O'Leary. "We will abolish the ticket counter, and then there is no reason to calculate money for the people at the airport," said the Airline CEO. This means that passengers have to check in independently via the app. The airports in Bavaria, Nuremberg and Memmingen, which serve a variety of destinations in Europe, are directly affected by this measure.

In addition to the check-in switches, Ryanair will also insist that boarding passes are no longer printed out. "Nothing is processed on paper anymore," said O'Leary. The idea behind this is to enable the entire handling via the app and thus minimize queues and unnecessary processes at the airport. Travelers who are already familiar with the app should now deal with this platform more intensively in order to prepare for the new conditions as best as possible.
