Leutkirch plans its own car license plate: Your voice counts!

Leutkirch, Deutschland - The city of Leutkirch faces a significant innovation: The local council unanimously made the decision to introduce its own car license plate. Driven by a concept of the Heilbronn University, which provides for new local license plates for over 320 German cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, the individual license plate should strengthen the identification of the citizens with their hometown. Letter combinations such as "leu", "ltk", "lia" or even "lka" are possible to make the city more visible and to promote the city timing, such as the Schwäbische Zeitung reports .

online survey on citizen participation

To determine the preferred license plate, the city of Leutkirch carries out an online survey that runs by January 4, 2025. Citizens can choose their favorites through a "thumbs up" or "thumb". The survey is accessible on the urban website and aims to achieve a high level of participation, especially during the Christmas season, reports the Kurier Memmingen .

The Mayor Hans-Jörg Henle assesses the introduction of its own license plate as a "nice thing", but sees greater challenges in other urban projects. Nevertheless, opinions in the local council are shared: While some city councils support the idea and emphasize the possibility that Leutkirch is perceived at a national level, other critical voices regarding the bureaucratic effort. Overall, however, the initiative is seen as an opportunity for city marketing and local identity.
