Notornot at the Neukloster high school: Number of students are increasing, solutions are missing!

Neukloster. An alarm sign for the high school on Sonnenkamp: The number of students rise rapidly! 456 pupils are currently being taught, but the forecasts show an increase to 540 pupils until the school year 2029/30. The classrooms are already overcrowded, and the criticism of the much too small rooms is getting louder. Some classes have to be accommodated in containers - an unsustainable Situation for students and teachers!

The list of defects is long: overcrowded classes, tiny rooms, far too few toilets and hardly any residence options. An open letter from the parents' council to the district has illustrated the urgency of the situation. But the answer to the urgent question of an extension is sobering: the start of construction is not expected before 2029! In the meantime, more than 500 students have to be taught in containers - an unreasonable solution for the coming years.

Construction not starting before 2029

The situation becomes even more complicated by the monument protection of the existing building. A basic renovation is necessary to renew the windows and the roof. But even after the renovation, the question remains how the small rooms can be used. The legal provisions do not allow simple redesign, which significantly restricts the use of the rooms.

The school capacity regulations stipulate that each student must have at least 1.9 square meters in the classroom. But the rooms in the old building are too small for the increasing number of students with only 35 to 40 square meters. An architectural competition for the urgently needed extension is being planned, but until the groundbreaking ceremony takes place, a lot of water will flow down the river. The students and teachers have to prepare for an uncertain future!
