Green oasis for Wismar: City is planning new station forecourt!

Wismar. The plans for the station area take shape! A previously bleak 3700 square meter terrain should turn into an inviting green area, filled with shade -giving trees, play options and rest areas. These are the great ideas that the Wismar citizens brought in the redesign - and now there are finally concrete designs!

In the heart of Wismar, the city administration wants to score with an innovative concept: The planning provides for a lively promenade along Bahnhofsstraße, which not only invites you to linger, but also promises a pleasant stay for travelers and citizens. The planned water fountains ensure a refreshing cooling on hot summer days. A very special welcome place will be created between the station buildings - equipped with useful information for travelers and an unmistakable range of leisure activities!

Railway relics

And that's not all! The artistic connection to the history of the railway remains unmistakable: Railway relics such as "green track quotes", wagon seat benches and even a barrier-free trampoline are used everywhere in the new design. A way from colored asphalt improves the accessibility of the area and ensures that travelers can easily enjoy the new place with luggage!

More than one million euros in the prospect

With a total budget of 1.35 million euros, the city has a great support: The Wismar city administration has applied for funding of over one million euros! 75 percent of the costs are to be covered. The own contribution of 337,500 euros, which the city has to take over, could soon be secured by a decision by the citizens on October 24th. Wismar is ready to transform his open spaces into a living, inviting place!
