Festive service in Grevesmühlen: New church region is being created!

Grevesmühlen. On Thursday, October 31st, a festive service will be founded in the St. Nikolai Church for the foundation of the new church region "Mecklenburg-Nord/West" celebrated! The church regions of Grevesmühlen and Gadebusch are merged, which brings far -reaching changes for the communities.

The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Grevesmühlen and Diedrichshagen faces a dramatic decline: by 2025, a loss of over 20 percent of the members will be forecast, which causes the number to only drop to only 1644. But that's not the only problem! Pastor Fabienne Fronek warns of an acute shortage of skilled workers, which heavily burdens the churches in Northwest Mecklenburg. Seven pastors will retire by 2030, which is what is currently the same half of the currently 14 pastors in the new region. The positions can only be filled if there are enough qualified staff!

Three parishes in the new church region

In order to master the challenges, the parish sprinkles Grevesmühlen, Gadebusch and Schönberg are formed. This structure is intended to help coordinate church work better. The parishes in these areas remain active and the events, including the weekly services in Grevesmühlen and twice a month in Diedrichshagen, are secured. The pastoral work should continue to remain alive in the villages!

In addition, confirmation classes will be organized together for the first time this year, which promotes cooperation between the communities. The members of the young community are already meeting regularly and show that mobility is not an obstacle. The service on the Reformation Day promises to become a festive event, with around 50 singers from the choirs from the region, a sermon by Provost Marcus Antonioli and a cozy get -together with soup, coffee and cake!
