Villa Baltic in Kühlungsborn: Hope for renovation after 35 years!
The Villa Baltic in Kühlungsborn, a historic jewel on the Baltic Sea, has been empty for 35 years and threatens to fall further. Despite the sale five years ago, the future of the listed building remains uncertain. In a meeting of the city representatives, the decision about a renovation package and the sale of the adjacent property to an investor was again postponed. The tension increases: When will this hanging game finally end?
The owners of Villa Baltic have big plans! You would like to purchase the neighboring property to build a hotel that is to finance the renovation of the villa. In October, an agreement between the owners, the city and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was reached, which increased the funding for the renovation to six million euros. Half of this sum is worn by the federal, city and country. An expert opinion has set the value of the property at around 5.2 million euros. But the question remains: when will the project finally be put into practice?
The eventful history of Villa Baltic
The Villa Baltic has a turbulent past. Originally built in 1912, it was looted by the Red Army after the Second World War and later used as a FDGB recreation home. After the turn, the building was empty and fell into disrepair. The brothers Jan and Berend Aschenbeck, who bought the Villa 2019, have already submitted an architect's draft for the planned hotel, which is to be built in timber construction. Interior Minister Christian Pegel emphasizes the historical importance of the villa: "This is about the history and identity of a building, the importance of which extends far beyond the city limits." The hope remains that Villa Baltic will soon be open to the public again and houses a café.
