Protests in Stralsund: Local residents defend themselves against XXXLUTZ-BAU!
Stralsund. The plans for the gigantic furniture store of the Austrian giant XXXLUTZ in Stralsund cause excitement! Residents from the streets of Bahnweg, Am Paschenberg and on Köppenberg vehemently raise their voices against the construction of a 30 meter high building directly opposite their residential area. "We feel over!" Katrin Klein scolds from the street on Paschenberg. Citizens are horrified by the city's decision, despite the existing alternatives at this location.
The residents have teamed up and collected 60 signatures against the project within just two days. Your main worries? An increase in traffic and unbearable noise! "The navigation system will lead people directly through our quarter," warns Beate Kassan. And that's not all: the citizens fear that the furniture store will become an envelope center for online orders, which could result in enormous truck traffic, possibly even at night.
why more traffic?
Helmut Lange, a resident for 50 years, has already observed how truck drivers use the abbreviation on Feldstraße. "The city has a driveway on the Greifswald Chaussee, but the traffic lights there is ignored," he explains. The residents agree: the traffic will become intolerable if the furniture store opened.

In addition, the residents fear that the noise is strengthened by the railway line by the new building. Kristin Böttcher warns: "A 30 meter high building will throw the sound back and give us even more noise." The plans for a discotheque in the neighboring locomotive shed also cause concern because the citizens fear for the nightly peace. XXXLutz plans to build the region's largest furniture store with 21,000 square meters of space, but the city administration remains vague in its answers to the concerns of the residents.
