Ecumenical Reformation reception in Stralsund: Together for Peace!

Stralsund, Deutschland - A powerful sign of the unit was set in Stralsund on Reformation Day! The Evangelical North Church invited to an impressive ecumenical reception of reformation in which high -ranking representatives of the Catholic Church were present. Under the inspiring motto "Together together", not only the separation by Martin Luther was thought of, but also emphasized the similarities of the two faiths. State Bishop Kühnbaum-Schmidt and Archbishop Heiner Koch carried out a service in the Catholic Church of Stralsund and emphasized God's grace as a central message.

a milestone of reconciliation

At the center of the reception was the "common explanation of the doctrine of justification", a historical document that was signed 25 years ago by both churches. This explanation is a crucial step towards reconciliation between the Evangelical and the Catholic Church and deals with the fundamental question of whether people do justice to good deeds or solely through faith before God. Kühnbaum-Schmidt emphasized that in a "merciless time" in which war and violence split mankind, this explanation is a sign of peace and hope for reconciliation.

After the service, the participants continued their way to the St. Jakobi cultural church. Bishop Tilman Jeremias said that this common pilgrimage was more than just a symbol. "It is a strong sign that we celebrate the Reformation Day together today, Evangelical and Catholic. This could be an impetus for our drifting society that it is better to be together than to fight each other," said Jeremias and called for unity.
