Schwerin invests in new playgrounds: Citizens shape with!

Schwerin plans an exciting future for the little ones! The city relies on new, challenging playgrounds that are not only inclusive and barrier -free, but also stand directly on the children's doorstep. Creative elements and high quality of stay are at the top of the list. In particular, the Werder suburb, a district with a growing population and many children, will benefit from these plans.

In order to implement the concept by 2029, the city will rely on a broad citizen participation. Mayor Rico Badenschier explains: "Schwerin is very happy to plan playgrounds together with children and parents." The city councils, local advisory boards, the disabled advisory board, the senior advisory board and the children's and youth council are actively involved in the planning. Innovative playground ideas

The planners think outside the box! Future playgrounds could integrate elements of the "edible city", in which game and leisure facilities are combined with edible plants. This will play to learn and taste! Schwerin has been implementing 20 playground projects since 2019, including a barrier -free playground in the Lankow Generation Park. With a total of 213,000 square meters of municipal playing areas and 97 public playgrounds, the city is well positioned in order to meet the needs of its little citizens.

But that's not all! Playgrounds in need of renovation in Friedrichsthal-Ost and the garden city are also on the list of modernizations. The city administration, represented by Ilka Wilczek, emphasizes the need to check and adapt the previous priorities. Schwerin is ready for a new era of playground design!
