New living concept: Farm for seniors at Gingst starts soon!

An innovative project called “Farm instead of old people’s home” is to be created in Gingst on Rügen, which offers seniors a new way of life. Anja Kopp, the founder and project manager, has developed a vision that enables people to live on a farm with their beloved pets. Not only are dozens of vegetable patches and small houses for privacy to be built here, but also healthy coexistence is to be promoted. The first interested parties have already registered in large numbers and the list now includes over a hundred names. If everything goes according to plan, the project could open at the end of 2027, reports Baltic Sea newspaper.

The concept is based on the experiences of Anja Kopp, who fundamentally questioned her life after suffering from cancer. When developing the project, she brought in experts who put the project through its paces. “We played through and analyzed everything,” she explains. The Haidhof, a well-located location, is intended to provide a new home for up to 20 seniors. Various animal-assisted activities are planned for the project - among other things, chickens, dogs and even horses are expected to play an important role. According to Kopp, it is also possible to bring your own animals. The project will also be presented in a new podcast in which Anja Kopp and her team talk about their plans.

Financial support for the project comes from foundations and potential loans, with the service fee for residents being around 1,900 euros per month, which is cheaper than in conventional retirement homes. The project not only promotes harmonious coexistence between people and animals, but also aims to enable a new, self-determined life in old age. Kopp also announced an open day for interested citizens to further introduce the concept and attract many future residents and supporters.
