Hüzelmarathon in Prenzlau: 1200 cyclists convince with Jens Voigt!
The participants celebrated a new record at the 19th hill marathon in Prenzlau. On Saturday morning, in pleasant weather conditions and a good atmosphere, the athletes gathered at the start of the cycling marathon. The well -known cyclist Jens Voigt and Dr. Helaman Krause gave the starting shot at 8 a.m., with over 200 cyclists tackled the demanding route of 226 kilometers.
Jens Voigt, who is considered a passionate cyclist, had already shared his stories and experiences from the world of competition with the spectators on Friday. His autobiography entitled "Shut Up Legs" reflects his fighting spirit and his way in racing. The motivation and anticipation were noticeable when the participants started the day with coffee and rolls.
Impressive number of participants
The hill marathon attracted a total of over 1200 participants who wanted to measure themselves sporty in different categories. While the main route started at 8 a.m., the 162 kilometers followed and the 115 kilometer long distances shortly afterwards. Another 142 cyclists started at 10 a.m., while the family tour with 258 participants got rolling at 11 a.m. Among them was also the Schwanen Princess Betty I., who took part in the event together with important representatives of the city.
The large field of participants was supported by numerous helpers who ensured that the cyclists were well cared for at various supply stations. The Stadtwerke Prenzlau and the Uckermärkische Service Society played an important role in the organization and implementation of the event.
Organizational effort
Already at 6 a.m. the construction team began preparing at the supply stations. Roberto Kraatz and his colleague Stefanie Simon, both of whom are at the hill marathon right from the start, managed the station in Templin. They described their motivation to be part of this event and reported on the efforts that these events require.
The cyclists found a variety of options for refreshment at the stations, while some continued without stopping. The landscape along the route was not only impressed by the participants, but also the professional Jens Voigt, who praised the organization and care and expressed its joy over the scenic stimuli of the Uckermark.
The event was organized by the Ucker Dragons by the Dragon Board Association Prenzlau e.V. They received numerous support from local sponsors and cooperation partners, which made it much easier for the smooth process. The large number of participants and the general enthusiasm indicate that the hill marathon will continue to remain an integral part of the regional sporting events in the future.
