Community Glowe says no to new Caravanplatz - what is behind it?

glowe on Rügen looks back on a long camping tradition that started in 1965. The camp behind the Baltic Seaes was a popular starting point, especially among GDR citizens until the closure in 1993. This location contributed significantly to the attractiveness of the Baltic Sea resort. At the moment there is only the camping oasis in Polchow in the municipal area, which only offers 20 parking spaces.

In a current project, private individuals planned to build a caravan and tent site with a total of 30 parking spaces and a tent meadow in Ruschvitz near Glowe. The builders had applied for a change to the existing development plan No. 13. However, the municipal council rejected the application at the end of December 2024. The committee chairman Dirk Heinemann made it clear that there was basically nothing against the idea of creating further space for camper.

community resistance and concerns

Roland Drossel, head of municipal businesses, confirmed the high demand for parking space for motorhomes. Nevertheless, the municipality of Ruschvitz sees an unsuitable location because there is no sufficient tourist infrastructure. There is also a number of challenges: access takes place on a gradient, the curve is confusing and the proximity to the busy state road is causing additional concerns.

The community also expresses urban planning concerns and intends to keep small settlements natural. The focus of tourism should be limited to the main town and larger districts, which makes the plans for the new tent and caravan square in Ruschvitz considerably more difficult.
