Rostock's way to the digital age: Faster internet connection for everyone!
On Tuesday, December 10th, an important step towards fast internet was taken in Rostock. The preparations for the first hub of the fiber optic network in the Brinckmansdorf district and the neighboring Kessin have been completed, such as the Nordkurier reported. Stadtwerke Rostock have concluded a contract with the Vitrum company to build modern broadband networks. The aim is to provide a total of 3,400 households in these regions access to fast internet at speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second. "A comprehensive broadband infrastructure is as important as the supply of electricity, gas and warmth," said Heike Witzel, board member of Stadtwerke Rostock.
partnership and regional importance
The Stadtwerke Rostock intend, in cooperation with Vitrum Fiber, also to combine Kühlungsborn with the new technology. Stefan Waldhaus, Head of Rostock Stadtwerke, reports that over 40 % of the respondents have shown potential customers interested in fiber optic connections. Up to 3,900 customers are to be connected in the Kühlungsborn expansion area, while Brinckmansdorf and Kessin will benefit 3,300 households, he added. Andreas Marschall, Managing Director of Vitrum Fiber, was optimistic about the project and the future care of the customers of Stadtwerke.
The local Senator Dr. Chris von Wrycz Rekowski spoke of an important project that brings many challenges and investments. While Brinckmansdorf is located on the outskirts of Rostock, he illustrates the need for close cooperation between the city and the district when ensuring that internet access. Mayor Jürgen Sprank also described it as positive that Kessin was involved in the project, however, warns that further areas still urgently need to be connected to the fast internet in order to avoid rear places in digital competition.
