Oiltian tanker Eventin before Rügen: an accident ensures nervousness!

The oil tanker “Eventin” suffered a total failure of his systems in the Baltic Sea on Friday night and was unable to maneuver. The 274 meter long ship, which runs under Panama flag, has around 99,000 to 100,000 tons of oil on board. The incident occurred about 15 kilometers north of Rügen and the ship is now driving on the road, around four kilometers from the coast, in front of the city harbor of Sassnitz. The arrival of the tanker on Sunday is expected.

Currently, the “event” is kept in position by tractors, while the weather conditions in the region are challenging. Wind speeds up to nine baunting and shaft heights of up to three and a half meters make the safety work difficult. The towing association, consisting of several tugs, draws the ship to the east for safety to ensure a larger distance from the island of Rügen, such as

The "event" was on the way from Ust-Luga (Russia) to Port Said (Egypt) when the incident entered. The incident raises questions about security in the Kadetrinne north of Rostock, which is considered one of the most difficult passages in the Baltic Sea, and calls politicians such as Tobias Woitendorf, head of the state tourism association, to request better security measures in the region. Historical accident in this region show the urgency of such measures, for example the incident with the sugar freighter "Tern" and the "Baltic Carrier" oil tanker in 2001, such as PZ News Notes.
