Erzgebirge Aue after the cup victory: trust in the regular players remains!
Annaberg, Deutschland - Erzgebirge Aue achieved a difficult 2-0 win in the DFB Cup against the seventh club Annaberg on Sunday. This was an important victory after two defeats in a row, which the team dropped in the table. Despite these difficulties, sports director Matthias Heidrich emphasizes that the “big direction” of the team should not be questioned.
The entry into the season was promising for the Auer: after four victories at the beginning, they stood at the top of the table. But in the last five games there were only four points. Matthis Heidrich points out to a simple reason: "From a profane point of view, there were two corners. One against Bielefeld, and one against Rostock." These incidents led the team to lose to both games after leadership. "Of course that makes it particularly bitter because we could have decided both games earlier," says Heidrich.
challenges on the field
AUE currently rank a position that does not meet the initial expectations. Heidrich appeals to the team: "We are not allowed to question the big direction now." Nevertheless, he admits that improvements are necessary, especially on the defensive stability and the ability to decide at an early stage. For the last time, Aue was able to play a game without a goal against Dresden at the end of August.
Another problem sees Heidrich in the unrest in substitute players who did not give the necessary impulses. "In the end, it is always a matter of calling up the existing quality. For various reasons, we are not able to exploit the potential with the boys we have here," says the 46-year-old. Therefore, management consider how the team can be put forward to react to injuries. Nevertheless, you have great confidence in the current player group.
A current test player also ensures conversation. Malick Sanogo, a striker, introduced himself in training, but his commitment is still unsure. Heidrich explains: "It is not a story that only we influence, only we keep our fingers crossed or lower." Sanogo still has options abroad that he wants to check. Heidrich and those responsible still stay in contact with the player to keep the possibilities open.
If AUE Sanogo should sign, he would probably have to play again. Heidrich justifies his concerns: "After two units to take a player who was not in team training for two or three months - to put everything on a horse - that would be a difficult to calculate venture." He prefers a longer training phase to get to know the player better before making a decision. Until then, the current squad remains required to bring the turn in the league.
