Chaos in Lüdersdorf: main streets should finally be renamed!

Lüdersdorf. In a curious mess, six villages in Nordwestmecklenburg have the same main street! This confusing situation concerns the municipalities of Lüdersdorf, Duvennest, Herrnburg, Wersow, Palingen and Schattin, all of whom belong to the postcode 23923. The Ministry of the Interior has been calling for these streets to be renamed since 2006, but the community has not yet responded. The residents are frustrated, because the confusion has serious consequences for posters, police and emergency services.

A post supplier reports on her daily struggle: "This is a wild mess in this community. Here the respective district has to be on it, otherwise we have no chance." It is often the right address, but does not find the name of the recipient. Wolfgang Koglin, a resident, is annoyed: "The mail order company simply does not do it. That's why we don't order anymore." Elisabeth Schumacher also had her experiences: "Sometimes a pizza supplier is just around the corner, even though we didn't order anything." The confusion is so great that even official mail is delivered to the wrong addresses.

Emergency services need precise address information

The problem goes beyond the inconvenience in deliveries. Fire brigade, police and emergency services are dependent on precise address information in order to be able to help quickly in an emergency. In an emergency, misleading location could lead to dangerous delays, which could make the municipality liable. The municipal council will discuss the renaming of the main streets on November 26. The costs for new street signs are another aspect that must be taken into account in the decision.

But not only the main roads are affected! Other street names such as "Bahnhofstrasse" and "Dorfstraße" have also been awarded several times. The residents hope for an early solution to finally bring order back into the address chaos.
