Neubrandenburg sets signs of diversity: Return of the rainbow flag?
Neubrandenburg, Deutschland - A storm of outrage sweeps through Neubrandenburg! The city council plans to re -position itself in the bitter dispute over the rainbow flag. Today the presidium advises on how to proceed, while thousands of citizens support a petition to return the flag. On November 15, a cross -faction application is to be brought in, to emphasize tolerance and cosmopolitanism in the city.
The deputy city president Roman Oppermann showed that the current situation was no longer wearable. The new application, initiated by the SPD and supported by a counting community of SPD, Greens, Leftists and parts of the CDU, should set a sign of cohesion and diversity. Over 20 out of 42 city representatives have already made their signature. "It's not just about the rainbow flag, but about a clear commitment to the openness of the world and tolerance in everyday life," says Oppermann.
ban on the rainbow flag ensures turmoil
a month ago, the city council issued a decision that baned to hoist the rainbow flag at the train station. This was done at the request of the city representative Tim Großmüller (stable citizens of Neubrandenburg), who justified the ban on thefts and the exchange of the flag with right symbols. Only federal or state flags are allowed to labor! This decision triggered a wave of the protest and meant that Mayor Silvio Witt (independent) announced his resignation. An online petition for the return of the rainbow flag has now collected over 41,000 signatures.
The discussion about the flag and the associated incidents shows how deeply the conflict about tolerance and diversity is rooted in society. Unknown people had stolen the flag in front of the center of the Queernb association, which further fueled the tensions. The argument that the ban could prevent crimes such as exchanging the flag seems to bump into deaf ears.
