Neubrandenburg celebrates its star: Soulymane Cherif returns!
In Neubrandenburg, the football legend Soulymane Cherif, known as "Pelé von Neubrandenburg", experienced an emotional return to the city in which it once became famous. A few days ago, the 80-year-old celebrated a meeting with former teammates, which was characterized by warm memories and nostalgic moments. The meeting also gathered Harry Mehrwald, another important player in Neubrandenburg's football history, who was eagerly wished to share his feelings and memories.
The event was particularly important for Cherif, who came to the GDR in the 1960s to play football and conquered the hearts of fans in the storm. After he was promoted to the highest league of the GDR with the SC Neubrandenburg in 1964 and showed great performances there, he was finally denied to continue playing in the GDR league, since foreigners were not allowed in this league. Nevertheless, he managed to achieve fame in football and as an athlete in Guinea.
The return to the roots
The reason for Cherif's return was a delegation trip on the occasion of the annual day of independence Guinea. From Berlin, Cherif went on a trip to Neubrandenburg and found himself in the footsteps of his former career. Despite the changes in the city, which many of the places he once played no longer, he experienced a warm welcome with old acquaintances. "The Jahn Stadium", Cherif noticed when he saw the current stadium, "I feel comfortable, even if many memories of the old stadium are missing."
The meeting was organized by 1. FC Neubrandenburg 04, which together with the city and the Neubrandenburg housing company set up a meeting in the club building. In the middle of the nostalgic atmosphere, Cherif met with old teammates, who still had active memories of the time of the game and training together. Numerous stories were exchanged, while those present also thought of those who could no longer participate, such as team captain Jürgen Schröder and FCN President Torsten Hanke.
Cultural exchange and future perspectives
Those present, which also included the Guinian ambassador in Germany and prominent Guinean delegates, spoke about the importance of cultural and sporting exchange between Guinea and Germany. "A city partnership between Conakry and Neubrandenburg would be a wonderful way to strengthen our connections," suggested Peter Modemann, the deputy mayor. Cherif's visit was seen as a symbol of the long -lasting friendships between the countries. While he had walked through the city, Cherif collected memorabilia that he would take to Guinea in his suitcase in his suitcase.
This return was not only a reunion with old friends for Cherif, but also a celebration of his life's work. "I often thought of how nice it would be to come back here and see my friends," he said during the meeting when the tears got in his eyes. His former player Harry Mehrwald shared touching stories of shared experiences and emphasized how much respect and cohesion prevailed in earlier times, something that he would support in today's time.
