Change grandparents: new courses for modern family role!

In Neubrandenburg an exciting initiative is launched! The pediatric nurse and breastfeeding consultant Vera Risy started a unique course for expectant grandparents on the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer Clinic. While many think that grandparents know everything about the care of a newborn, it turns out that they too can benefit from modern knowledge. This course is a novelty in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, while such offers are already widespread in large cities. "Grandparents play an important role for families," emphasizes Risy.

But times change! The views of the care of babies have changed. Risy explains that babies need closeness and care today instead of being fed in a strict rhythm. "We know from many studies that babies feel most comfortable when they can feel human warmth and eat at any time," said the expert. These new findings can cause tensions between the generations, since many grandparents stick to their traditional methods.

Harmonian cooperation in focus

The course aims to help grandparents effectively shape their support for the young family. It's not just about practical things like changing diapers or bedtime, but rather about harmonious coexistence. Risy reports amused by Berlin courses, where grandparents were often sent by their children to defuse conflicts. In Neubrandenburg, on the other hand, the participants register on their own drive to prepare for their new role.

The course "We will be grandparents" takes place on November 21 at 5 p.m., and registrations are possible on 0395 775-2775 or by email to [Email Protected]. Courses for prospective siblings are also being planned to welcome the new family member. The clinic also regularly offers information about birth and the first few weeks with the baby.
