The renovation of the castle facilities in Penkun and Mirow accepts concrete forms after the Federal Ministry of Building has provided over two million euros for the restoration. The Minister of Construction of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Christian Pegel (SPD), was pleased with the support that now made it possible to realize projects that were previously considered to be "unimaginable".

The city of Penkun plans to transform the stable storage in need of renovation into a multifunctional meeting center. From May 2025, the work is to begin, which includes the roof, facade and historical floors. Renewers of windows, doors and gates are also planned. Mayor Antje Zibell expects that this renovation not only shapes the cityscape, but also opens up an important use as an event location for theater performances and markets. In addition to the federal funds, 300,000 euros must also be raised from urban funds.

Financial support is also of great importance for Mirow. The funds are to be used to build the baroque “lower castle” in a standstill and to supply with modern technical systems. The municipality plans to use the castle as an exhibition room, venue and tourist information in the future. These measures will ensure that both historical sites are both culturally stimulated and increase their attractiveness for visitors.
