Culture in the Rostock district: challenges and new ideas for the future
Mühl Rosin, Deutschland - In a gripping workshop at the University of Rostock, passionate actors in cultural life gathered from the Rostock district to illuminate the challenges of cultural work in rural areas. From concert organizers to local chronicists to nature lovers - the diversity of the participants was impressive. The committed Friederike Berlekamp, head of the “Voluntary Cultural Work in Rural Agency” (Eklair) project, asked the pressing questions: What kind of cultural offers are there in the country? Who is committed to this? And above all: what problems have to be overcome?
A central problem quickly became clear: the offspring is missing! Beate Hanke-Metz from the hands-on center of the Rostock district got to the point: "Young people are more interested in their Tikok stars than for Mozart or Beethoven." In order to counteract this, the "Bisdede" association in Mühl Rosin plans to establish a youth advisory board in order to involve the votes of the young people in decisions. In addition, a film project is to be launched in which the young people can creatively document their surroundings.
mobility and lack of money: the big hurdles
Another major obstacle is the lack of mobility that makes access to cultural offers difficult. The community "From village to village" has taken on this challenge and organizes joint hikes and bike tours. Elke Woitke, an active member, emphasizes: "We connect through the paths." In addition, there is often a lack of financial resources, which makes it difficult to establish clubs in the villages. However, an association from Elmenhorst/Lichtenhagen has found a clever path by combining different groups under one roof and thus securing the financing through ticket income.
The eclaire project is planning a publication by 2026 that will present positive examples from the Rostock district. A comparison with the Oldenburg Münsterland in Lower Saxony is intended to show how cultural life in the country can be successfully promoted. Friederike Berlekamp explains: "We are likely to concentrate on positive examples to show politics how cultural life can work in the country." A clear call to the federal government and the country to support the cultural treasures away from the big cities!
