Mukran, Deutschland - The municipality of Binz, in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, decisively raises objections to the planned envelope of liquid gas (LNG) in the port of Mukran! An application for prohibition was sent to the State Office for Agriculture and the Environment (Stalu) on Monday. The operating company Deutsche Regas had only applied for an expansion of its operating license at the end of September in order to be able to turn LNG in the future and transport it to Northern Europe. So far, the company was only entitled to landing liquid gas, regasifying and feeding it into the German gas network. Mayor Karsten Schneider (non -party) is certain: "An envelope terminal must be requested from scratch and go through a comprehensive environmental impact assessment!"

The municipality of Binz is concerned about the potential environmental effects of the LNG envelope. Schneider emphasizes that the environmental impact assessment, which is necessary for such an application, would take at least two to three years. In addition, the Ministry of the Environment had already made it clear at the end of September that the planned envelope operation was not covered by the existing approval. The German regas is required to explain its new business model in detail and to provide all the necessary evidence. The stalu is currently cheating on whether the LNG envelope is permitted at all. The location is heading, because German environmental aid has already filed a complaint against the German regas!

The opportunity to move LNG to Sweden is strongly criticized. Opponents of the plans even call for the terminal to be dismantled on Rügen. While the federal government emphasizes the importance of the LNG envelope for the "resilience function" of the energy supply, the municipality of Binz remains determined to enforce its concerns against the expansion of the terminal.
