Mariannhiller missionaries found the new province of Central Europe!

Würzburg, Deutschland - Wien/Würzburg - the Mariannhiller missionaries, an internationally active congregation, have decided on a significant change in their organization. On March 2, General Superior P. Michael Maß will sign the decree to found a new province of Central Europe in the Piusseminar in Würzburg. This was announced by the Mariannhillers and the Order of Austria. This newly created province includes missionaries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland and is temporarily directed by a transitional management that remains in office until a decent electoral chapter was carried out.

The new province is strengthened by P. Christoph Eisentraut CMM, the previous provincial in Germany and regional superiors in Austria, which was appointed her first provincial. The province currently comprises 46 members, including twelve from Africa, which underlines the international orientation of the faith community. While the number of members in Africa is growing strongly, the mission is aiming for increased internationalization in order to better perceive the challenges and opportunities of modern missionary activity. The roots of the Mariannhiller missionaries go back to the late 19th century when the Vorarlberg Franz Pfanner founded the Mariannhill Trappistenkloster in South Africa, creating a new missionary community.
