A dramatic incident on the A8 between the Stuttgart cross and the Leonberg triangle caused excitement on Wednesday morning! A regular bus caught fire at 6.10 a.m. and led to massive traffic disruptions on the A8 and A81. The driver, a 64-year-old man, was alone on the bus and was able to get to safety in time when the flames hit the engine compartment.
The fire brigade was quickly on hand, but the bus burned out completely, and the police estimated the damage at around 40,000 euros. The A8 had to be temporarily completely blocked, which also affected the A81. The situation was tense because the traffic was severely impaired until noon.

At around 7:30 a.m., the police were able to release the two left lane again, while the right lanes and the hard shoulder remained closed to cleaning work until noon. The burned -out bus was loaded onto a low loader and removed. At 1:22 p.m. the route was finally completely free again, and the traffic load had normalized. A technical defect is suspected as the cause of the fire, which further fueled the police's investigation!
