Help for the homeless: Simone Weber fights for women in need

in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Simone Weber, a committed social worker, ensures hope and change in life of homeless women. After 23 years in industry, the 48-year-old found the courage to plunge into social work, and with full heart! She has been working in the St. Elisabeth facility for five years, where she takes care of the concerns of women who were often hit by blows of fate. Your work is not only challenging, but also incredibly enriching.

"I love to work with people," says Weber, who promotes a family atmosphere in the facility. There is no registration for advice or overnight stays here - everyone can just come and find help. From mental illnesses to drug addiction, Weber offers support and conveyed at advice centers. Her passion is also evident in Advent when she sings Christmas carols with the residents and organizes a festive lunch. "Christmas Eve is a real feast with us," she enthuses.

The challenges of homelessness

But the work also brings her dark sides. Aggression of visitors are rare, but they occur. "We have clear rules. If you don't stick to it, you have to go," explains Weber. The city administration then takes responsibility for accommodation. The fates that she accompanied are particularly moving, like that of a woman who got into homelessness through drugs and alcohol. "It is heartbreaking when you see how desperately some fight," she says, emphasizing the importance of team talks and supervision to deal with the emotional load.

The number of homeless women increases, and Weber suspects that more and more women are taking the step to end their hidden homelessness. "In the past it was about 25 percent, today it is 30 percent," she reports. The younger generations are also looking for help, including even 18-year-olds who flew from home. Weber and your team are ready to help these people and offer them a perspective.
