Peter Roehr: 80 years after his death - an extraordinary homage!
In 2024, the art scene in Wiesbaden celebrates a special occasion: the 80th birthday of the renowned artist Peter Roehr. Roehr, who died in 1968 at the age of only 24, is considered one of the first representatives of the minimal art in Germany as well as the important photo artist of pop art and a pioneer of concept art of the 1970s. Despite his short artistic work, he left an extensive work that still finds recognition worldwide today.
Roehr was born in 1944 and attended the Wiesbaden Werkkunst School, which is now known as Kunsthaus Wiesbaden. In honor of his 80th birthday, the Kunsthaus is planning a special exhibition that recognizes its innovative approach to art. This event is part of the interior cooperation project, which combines six important exhibition houses in the Frankfurt Rheinmain region.
exhibition and international sound art
The exhibition shows works by five international sound artists - Danbi Jegenung, Kyungseo Min, Juan David Bermúdez, Wingel Mendoza and Leon Senger - who have first dealt with Roehr's way of working. They have created their pieces especially for this homage, which are in dynamic exchange with Roehr's serial assemblies. The result is a unique artistic perspective, the past and present linked together and appeals to the audience to new ways.
The exhibition runs from September 15, 2024 to November 11, 2024 and is appealing for art lovers of all kinds. The opening times are Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday there is an extended opening time until 7 p.m. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge, which makes the event accessible to a wide audience.
The Kunsthaus Wiesbaden invites art lovers to be inspired by the connection of sound art with Roehr's visual heritage. Visiting this exhibition could not only celebrate an anniversary, but also emphasize the relevance of Roehr's influence on modern art in Germany.
