Homage to Peter Roehr: Kunsthaus Wiesbaden celebrates 80 years of minimal way

The talented artist Peter Roehr broke out his creative work in 1968 at the age of only 24, but the impressive legacy he left behind still shapes the art scene today. Roehr is recognized as one of the first minimalist artists in Germany and an innovator of pop art and the concept art of the 1970s. His influence is particularly evident in his unique approach to photography and assembly.

Born in 1944, Peter Roehr began his artistic training at the Wiesbaden Werkkunstschule, which is now known as Wiesbaden Kunsthaus. In the coming year, 2024, he would have celebrated his 80th birthday, and on the occasion of this anniversary the Kunsthaus organizes a special homage to his work.

international sound artist Ehren Roehr

An interesting facet of this exhibition is the participation of five international sound artists: Danbi Jegenung, Kyungseo Min, Juan David Bermúdez, Wingel Mendoza and Leon Senger. These artists dealt intensively with Roehr's way of working and created new works for the exhibition. This work is in a dynamic exchange with a selection of Roehr's serial assembly and thus open a new dialogue between sound and image.

The exhibition is part of a larger cooperation project called Interior, in which a total of six exhibition houses from the Frankfurt Rheinmain region are involved. The cooperation aims to strengthen the regional art scene and promote the exchange between art and artists.

The exhibition in the Wiesbaden Kunsthaus can be seen from September 15, 2024 to November 11, 2024. The opening times are from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., with an extended Thursday until 7 p.m. And best of all: admission is free!

For more information about the exhibition and the artists can visit the website of the Kunsthaus. Peter Roehr's comprehensive appreciation not only shows his historical contribution to modern art, but also builds bridges to current artistic developments that carry on its legacy.

The funding for this project in particular underline the value that culture has for society and show how important it is that such initiatives can be continued in order to keep cultural memory alive.
