Request free voters: Less money for Bad Nauheim's volunteer politicians!

Bad Nauheim, Deutschland - In Bad Nauheim it is bubbling! The free voters demand a drastic reduction in expense allowances for volunteer local politicians. At the next meeting of the city council on November 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the drinking courtyard, your application will be discussed, which should attribute the compensation to an appropriate level. The voters are convinced that the current amounts are far too high and are in no relation to the actual expenses.

"The new compensation that has been in effect since April 1, 2021 have achieved a level through the automatic inflation mechanism that is no longer portable," explains Markus Theis, chairman of the freelance group. The allowances are now so high that they are more like a work income rather than fair compensation for voluntary work. The free voters argue that the actual costs for the volunteers have not increased to this extent and demand more transparency in determining the compensation.

The numbers speak a clear language: In the household 2024, 60,000 euros are scheduled for the voluntary magistrate members and 165,000 euros for city councilors and local advisory board members. In recent years, the compensation has increased continuously: in 2022 by 3.1 percent, in 2023 by 6.9 percent and 5.9 percent in 2024. The free voters suggest that the increases will no longer be aligned with inflation, but on the tariff increases in the public service. "This ensures a fairer basis," says Theis.

Free voters are committed to ensuring that changes in the compensation statute come into force on January 1, 2025 before the next increase date. "It's not just about cost limitation, but also about the values of local politics. Volunteering should be characterized by idealism and responsibility, not by financial incentives," emphasizes Theis.
