Büdingen is fighting for flood protection: decided now!
In Büdingen, an important project for flood protection is about to be built: A retention basin is to be built on the hammer to protect the city from future flood disasters. For this purpose, the city administration plans to provide land on the Nidder-Seemenbach water association. This happens partially in exchange, in which the city returns its loose wooden rights to Constantia Forst GmbH. The majority of the decision to provide the land was decided in the city parliament last weekend, although not all MPs agreed to the procedure, such as the reported.
In particular, Wolfgang Faust of the "Pro reason" faction expressed concerns and warned that problems occur if not all property owners agree. He criticized that the city was only now taking care of the land, although a great flood event in January 2021 had already illustrated the urgency of such measures. The exchange affects 14 hectares of land, including areas for the retention basin and a high tank. According to the city's agreements, Constanta Forst is entitled to 400 solid meters of wood, which in the long run means a source of income of around 700,000 euros.
loss of wooden rights
The task of the lottery rights has a deeper meaning. The waiver of many municipalities, often struggled through for centuries, leads to a financial devaluation of the municipalities. In the past, the wooden rights enabled the municipalities to finance social services and also provide firewood in need, as explained by the website of Barth-engelbart . These rights not only embody material values, but also the history of the struggle for social justice in the communities. Historians see current developments as a potential loss that could have serious consequences for the financial independence of the cities.
The city of Büdingen and the Wasserverband Nidder-Seemenbach are doing everything possible to advance the construction project quickly. The approval planning should be completed by the first quarter of 2025 to start the construction work and to protect the residents from future flood scenarios.
