Doctor's appointment chaos: Why self-care does not help!

Friedberg, Deutschland - The search for an ophthalmologist's appointment is like a real odyssey! Despite an alleged oversupply of ophthalmologists in Wetterau, it is a challenge for patients, especially for children, to get a timely date. According to the Hesse (KVH) Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the Wetteraukreis is classified as oversupply with 116.13 percent. But the reality speaks a different language: a six-year-old boy from Reichelsheim suffers from a slope problem and the desperate search for his family for a doctor leads into an almost endless whirlpool of frustration.

The boy's grandmother reports on her hopeless situation. With double see you complain and urgently need a visit to the ophthalmologist. While the KVH assures that there are enough specialists in the region, those affected are left behind on telephone calls and emails without an answer. "At the attempt to get a doctor's appointment, you can sometimes despair," she says, describing how the trouble over the inadequate eye situation stands up. Therapy options seem to be moving in unattainable distant distance while the child is preparing for school and the requirements are increasing.

Why does the help fail?

The problem is diverse: an oversupply of clinics that often do not provide sufficient quality overloads the existing capacities. The KVH spokesman Karl M. Roth explains that not every ophthalmologist treats children. In fact, 2 out of 20 ophthalmologists in the region have no young patients in their practice. These grievances in the health system are alarming image of ophthalmological care. The 116 117, the appointment service point, is offered as a solution, but cannot guarantee that the required help will be in an acceptable time frame. "Longer paths are often necessary to get to a doctor," adds Roth.

And what about the transfers? According to the KVH, these are crucial to control costs in the system and to ensure that specialists take on the necessary filter function. This regulation brings your own dilemma with it and contributes to the existing confusion. A timely access to adequate medical care remains an unfulfilled wish for many, despite the official figures and statistics.
