Rescue workers in Vogelsberg train for an emergency: Mega exercise started!
On Saturday, October 12th, around 1,300 rescue workers took part in a large -scale civil protection exercise in Vogelsbergkreis. This event was supposed to recreate various emergency scenarios, including a mass carambolage, a forest fire and an accident with dangerous goods. The practice location was around the city of Homberg, where the emergency services were able to check their coordination and responsiveness.
The district fire inspector Marcel Büttner reported that in addition to the firefighters, the THW, medical staff, the air rescue, the police and soldiers of the Bundeswehr were also included. The more than 1000 active rescuers were prepared to work together in an emergency and to test existing emergency plans. These exercises are crucial in order to be able to act hand in hand in an emergency and to ensure the safety of the population.
realistic exercise scenarios
In order to make the training session as authentic as possible, over a hundred “injured” was simulated. These people should increase the realistic impression of an emergency, and thus face the rescue workers with the challenge of providing a large number of injuries and transporting them to the hospital. Traffic disabilities can occur in the vicinity of Homberg over the entire practice period, since the different scenarios are trained on public roads.
The exercise aims not only to train the interaction of the different organizations, but also their ability to act quickly and effectively in a stressful situation. "The security of the citizens is a top priority," said Büttner, emphasizing how important it is that all emergency services can rely on each other in an emergency. The training is carried out regularly to ensure that everyone involved is well prepared and follow the latest security standards.
For those responsible, this major exercise was an important step in emergency provision. In view of the increase in natural disasters and traffic accidents, it was crucial to take proactive measures. The coordination between the various organizations was a central point of the exercise to be able to better counter potential dangers in the future.
The preparations for this exercise were immense, and the effort pays in the form of increased security and better cooperation. Despite the challenges that such a complex exercise brings, those responsible are confident that the commitment was worth it and makes an important contribution to the security of all citizens in the Vogelsberg district.
