Digital tip in Hesse: Mayor promote smart city initiatives

A remarkable meeting recently took place at the Hessian City Day in Wiesbaden, where the leading heads of inter -municipal cooperation under the banner “Digital Tree Hesse” gathered. This group, which represents almost half a million inhabitants from Hesse, had the goal of promoting the digital transformation of its cities. Host Stephan Gieseler, Managing Director of the City Day, welcomed the five administrative peaks. The exchange in this context turns out to be essential to strengthen the digital skills and use synergies.

The three main projects that are currently in the works were presented in this meeting. Björn Kelschenbach from Wetzlar presented the "Roadmap" project, which has the structure of digital skills. Furthermore, Dr. Karenbist from Marburg on the “Godonu” project, which analyzes the use of online services. Marius Müller from Offenbach presented the “Smart Kikz” project, which is supposed to build a competence center for data and artificial intelligence.

A central topic of the meeting was the future cooperation within the inter -municipal community. Hendrik Schaus explained various approaches how the tests in a virtual competence center that is intended, intensified and refined across the city.

"Inter -municipal cooperation is important, such as the use of artificial intelligence and automation at a time when many municipalities are under financially pressure," emphasized Dr. Felix Schwenke, Mayor of Offenbach. In his statements, he made it clear that this collective approach not only serves to optimize the performance of the city administrations, but also benefit the entire population. "By bundling our forces, we avoid having to reinvent the wheel and can look synergistically," he added.

These measures and the intended strengthening of the collaboration not only offer prospects for administrative digitization and smart city offers of the individual cities, but for Hesse as a whole. A further reference to the promising funding on the part of the country, which is to contribute to strengthening these initiatives, was also addressed.
