Gilserberg: Household security brings drastic tax increases!

It gets serious in Gilserberg! The municipality has decided on a drastic budgetary security concept that affects the citizens directly. The municipal representatives unanimously voted for measures that are supposed to bring finances to shape. But what does that mean specifically? Higher fees and tax increases are on the agenda to fill the clammy cash register and to cover a deficit of 504,000 euros.

The drinking water fees rise from 1.85 to 1.95 euros per cubic meter, and the wastewater fees are also increased vigorously - from EUR 4.60 to 5.10 euros in 2025 and again by 20 cents in 2026. Property tax A is reduced from 350 to 257 percent, while property tax B from 394 to 233 percent falls. But that's not all: trade tax climbs from 390 to 400 percent. The municipality expects additional income of over 50,000 euros through these measures.

difficult repayment and savings

The repayment of a liquidity loan over one million euros by the end of 2025 is referred to as the "thing of the impossibility". The municipal representatives agree that the financial goals of the Schwalm-Eder district are unrealistic. In order to relieve the cash register, the dog tax, cemetery fees and administrative fees are also to be increased. In addition, a position in the administration is canceled, and another 65,000 euros are to be saved for material and services. The daycare bus could also be omitted, but the community promises not to leave the parents in the rain.

The situation is tense and the community representatives are aware of the burdens for the citizens. "I feel sorry for the citizens. A lot comes to the people," said Michael Stuhlmann (CDU). The upcoming mayor Lukas Daum (BLH) also emphasizes the challenges and the need to save in administration. The community faces the task of consolidating their finances and at the same time securing the quality of life of the citizens. A difficult balancing act that will require a lot of patience and understanding in the coming years.
