Offenbach plans to connect the bike: Citizen participation in demand!
In Offenbach it is bubbling: The city council discussed the feasibility study for the Radschnellweg FRM 8 from Frankfurt to Hanau. After eight years of planning, it is now serious! The path could create a revolutionary connection between the cities, but the details are still unclear. The corridor for the route extends from the banks of the Main to Bieberer Berg, and the city is faced with the challenge of finding the best transition points.
The coalition is optimistic, but the challenges are huge. Sabrina Engelmann warns of the Greens that it is not a simple bike path. "We need a well -developed rapid bike connection," she explains. Holger Hinkel from the SPD demands that the route finding must be seriously checked in order to gain the acceptance of the citizens. "There will be no approval for a route that is planned regardless of trees and traffic situation," says Hinkel. Citizens must be involved, because their consent is crucial for the success of the project.
controversy around the route guidance
The CDU expresses concerns about the early determination of the transition points. Dominik Mangmann warns that one could commit yourself too early and that the actual connection points could look very different depending on the route. Mobility director Sabine Groß sums up: "We have to define the transition points in order to advance the planning." The preferred route leads from the bank of the Germans via Gerbermühlstraße to Offenbacher Marienstraße and further to Hanau. But the traffic routing over Marienstraße is viewed critically because it could have massive effects on the resting traffic and the trees.
For further planning, around 140,000 euros are planned, with 70 percent should be financed by grants. But the financing of the later expansion remains uncertain because the budget situation is tense. Groß emphasizes that negotiations are still necessary to secure the financial means. The future of the cycle path is on the brink - will Offenbach will dare to jump?
