First Evo-Boxcup in Offenbach: Fists fly against Paris!
In Offenbach, an exciting boxing event will take place on Saturday: the 1st Evo-Cup, organized by the Boxclub Nordend. Once a place for craftsmanship, the old locksmith's shop on the site of the Offenbach energy supply is now transformed into an arena for aspiring talents and an international comparative duel.
The event is divided into two parts. In the morning a newcomer tournament begins at 12 p.m., in which young boxers compete in the so-called "quaint boxing". Bernd Hackfort, coach and managing director of BC Nordend, describes the event as an opportunity for the participants to find the start of boxing: "Go out, go boxing, go in, drive home," he explains. Later in the evening, at 8 p.m., the Evo Boxgala, which will be characterized by a higher competition level, follows.
special challenges and successes
The Offenbach boxers will compete against a mixed team from Paris in eleven fights. Hackfort emphasizes that this is a special opportunity for the association to present themselves both in terms of sport and public. "Not many other clubs do what we do there," says Hackfort, and points out that this is not only due to the club's skills, but also due to the possibilities.
The BC Nordend has developed from a social project to a respected club in the past 22 years, which is also known beyond the borders of Hesse. It should be emphasized that after the emergency solution in a provisional solution, the club has a permanent training center in the newly built Rockywood last year, where the athletes meet on good conditions. "This is an excellent place, we have bomb conditions," explains Hackfort.
However, the association is not sufficiently staffed, and the financial resources mainly flow into the infrastructure and the social projects that the club offers. "Among other things, we offer homework help," informs the managing director. Despite these challenges, Hackfort sees the need to promote new talents in terms of sport. "It is important not to forget the roots," he remembers his time as a youth leader in the Hessian boxing association and would like to give other clubs an incentive to do more for beginners.
The response to the Newcomer tournament is positive; More than 100 registrations from 17 different clubs have been received, even from regions such as Leipzig and North Rhine-Westphalia. Hackfort emphasizes that the satisfaction of the participants is the main goal of this event.
With regard to the comparison struggle with the Paris team, Hackfort expects more drama. "We not only want to win fair battles, but also win," he says. The spectators are particularly excited about Georgiana Podaru and Maria Elena Avram, two outstanding athletes who recently set a record in amateur boxes. Podaru, 24 years old, and Avram, at the age of 21 and already over 130 fights in the back, are the figureheads of the club and are likely to be very interested.
For boxing sports enthusiasts, the 1st Evo Cup not only means an opportunity to see exciting fights, but also an insight into the development and challenges of club life in Offenbach. The event will take place on October 5 and also offers the opportunity to experience the atmosphere and cohesion of the boxing community.
