Water protection area Borntal: Clean drinking water for Bad Soden-Salmünster!
A crucial step for protecting the drinking water in Bad Soden-Salmünster! The Darmstadt regional council officially deployed the "Tiefbrunnen Borntal" water protection area. This measure aims to protect the groundwater in the region from harmful contamination and to secure the public water supply. Strict rules in the various protective zones now apply: floor work and the construction of buildings are strictly prohibited in the narrower protection zone!
The Brunnen Borntal, which has been used by the Bad Soden-Salmünster municipal utility since 2005, removes an impressive 151,740 cubic meters of groundwater annually. After the successful operating experience, the municipal utilities applied for the designation of a protective area to protect the water from microbial contamination and nitrate loads. So the precious drinking water remains secured for the entire community!

In a on-site appointment with representatives of agriculture and forestry, water authorities and municipal utilities, the area of the fountain was carefully examined. The Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) then created a comprehensive hydrogeological report that set the various protective zones. The draft regulation was made public for two months in 2020, and all objections received were carefully checked and evaluated. Adjustments were made to meet the new requirements for agricultural use.
