Heroic deeds in the outdoor pool: Students save life - courageous deeds honored!
Bruchköbel/Gelnhausen. In a world in which swimming in summer temperatures is a welcome leisure activity for many. Outdoor pool that such relaxing moments can quickly become life -threatening. Thanks to the brave intervention of Leopold Thiel, a 14-year-old, a terrible fate was spared an eight-year-old boy. Leonard Schubert, 13 years old, also showed exceptional courage during a family vacation in the south of France when he saved another drowning.
The two young lifesavers were recently awarded by District Administrator Thorsten Stolz. He praised her actions in the presence of parents and grandparents as well as Bruchköbel's first city councilor Oliver Blum. "You showed responsibility and did not look away, but acted with courage, civil courage and helpfulness," proudly praised the two students. This commendation was presented as part of a small celebration in the Main-Kinzig-Forum, in which family members were able to experience the impressive performance of their children up close.
heroes in need: young people save lives
The remarkable rescue in the outdoor pool occurred when Leopold was traveling with friends at the non-swimmer pool. He noticed a boy who was motionless on the bottom of the pelvis. After short doubts as to whether the boy dipped, it quickly became clear that he was in serious difficulties. Leopold immediately acted, took the unconscious out of the water and took him to the bathing masters, where he was successfully reanimated. Leopold's rapid action saved life to a child and prevents the situation from having serious consequences.
The rescue of Leonard Schubert was similarly dramatic. In August 2023, the student and his grandmother were in a pool in the south of France when her life partner underlined and no longer appeared. Leonard immediately recognized the danger and dived without hesitation. Due to a neurological illness, the life partner of his grandmother was unable to help himself. Leonard managed to pack it and pull it out of the water safely, saving him another life.
District Administrator proudly emphasized the importance of such acts and pointed out the high number of drowning accidents in Germany. According to the German life rescue company (DLRG), 378 people already drowned in 2023 compared to 355 in 2022. Most accidents occur during the summer months and are often the result of ignorance of one's own swimming skills, an overestimation of one's own skills or the underestimation of dangers in the water. These figures illustrate how important education and swimming training are to prevent such tragic accidents.
In Hesse, the recognition of people who act in emergencies will not be given to inflation. The district administrator said that the documents for life -saving acts have a high value and are only given in special cases. In 2022, 16 rescue medals were awarded and 26 documents for the risk -free intervention by others. The Hessian Prime Minister can grant such commendations to counter courageous citizens as soon as they act for their own lives without danger.
The awards that Leopold Thiel and Leonard Schubert received are not only an appreciation of their bravery, but also an appeal to society, the importance of swimming and civil courage. Oliver Blum, first city council of Bruchköbel, emphasized how essential it is to raise children for responsible action and swim. "We have to make sure that children learn the necessary skills to protect themselves and others," he emphasized.
Such an event reminds us that through quick action, many tragic stories can end a positive end. The heroic deeds of these two young people are an example of the fact that even young people in critical moments have the ability to courageously act and save lives. Such stories should not only be recognized, but also seen as an incentive for others, to help in emergencies and not to be held back by fear or ignorance.
