Caritas in the MKK: on course for consolidation and new perspectives!

Gelnhausen, Deutschland - A positive turn for the Caritas Association Main-Kinzig-Kreis

The Caritas Association for the Main-Kinzig-Kreis presents itself strongly and optimistically at its latest general meeting in Gelnhausen! Chairman Ludwig Borowik and the colleagues on the board reported a noticeable improvement in the economic situation of the association, despite continuing challenges. The association has a new executive regional management this year: Sybille Schilling succeeded Robert Flörchinger. Their appointment is considered a significant step for the future development of the association!

The financial worries that led to a massive recourse to reserves last year continued in 2023, but did not fear to the worrying level. "We are on the right path of consolidation!", The chairman said and referred to successful countermeasures that are already bearing fruits. Nevertheless, the challenges are unmistakable: a first rate of an inflation compensation stipulated and the decline in church tax resources are troubled by the association. According to the provisional managing director Ingo Bischoff, the shortage of skilled workers remains an urgent problem that is burdening the personnel structure, especially in outpatient care services and addiction patrons.

important investments & structural changes

The larger investments in the new Caritas education center, which have a direct impact on the annual accounts, are particularly noteworthy. While the association could otherwise have achieved an almost balanced result, the investments are considerable. Nevertheless, the association sees the goal of securing and expanding the quality of its services. "The challenges grow, but the path taken is right!" Said Bischoff. The financing takes place by constant diocese, whose scope for action is severely limited under the increasing costs.

In addition, there are structural changes at diocesan level, which reflect the commitment of the board in working groups and control groups on the future of Caritas in the diocese of Fulda. A future-proof concept is to be developed, with a merger of the Caritas Association with the Diocesancaritas Association for 2026. "The approval of our members is a prerequisite for this far -reaching step," emphasized Borowik. The next steps are already in full swing!
